Our vision is to become the resource-optimisation platform (♻️) for the food industry, and to lead the way towards a more sustainable society (🌎). Wow. Hold up. That sounded pompous. Let's just put it like this instead:
At Karma, we save food with the tap of a button. And with each tap, we make the world better. Easy, right?
We are always open to people with fire (🔥), grit and initiative. Learning is easy for someone with motivation and curiosity (🌟). Being humble (😌) and empathetic are qualities we highly value. Despite our different skill sets and backgrounds, we always listen (👂). Simply, because we want to learn from one another. We foster an open office culture in any way possible - currently only limited by our imagination!
Furthermore, we love people who are constantly moving forward; who can take an idea, and make it reality. We match our drive with positivity; so our teams have a solutions-instead-of-problems mindset. We don't just want the why, how, and when for a project. What the hell is a zen room? Truthfully, we don't know either. But we use it for yoga and other soft activities. Oh, did we mention we have a ping pong table as well?

Let’s start off with a chat over the phone. In normal times the next step is a face2face meet, but given the circumstances we’ll most likely chat over a Hangout. During the interview you’ll meet some of your closest colleagues, chat about your experience and get a feel for the role and team culture.
We’d love to see your work. Depending on what role you’re applying for, the task will vary. This will be our chance to get to know you even better, and for you to see for yourself what working at Karma is like.
In most cases, the last step is meeting one of our founders. You’ll have the opportunity to pick their brain and understand Karma as a product. We’ll discuss the company values and what the future holds for the company, and for you.
Last but not least, it’s time to decide. You rate us, and we rate you. Then it’s time to finally make it official: you become a member of our crew.
From the fall of 2015 until the summer of 2016, Karma was a rollercoaster ride. The very first version of the company was an app that allowed people to get deals on a range of items, from clothes to goods and food. That version did not fly. In fact, the first 9 months of the company’s lifetime was rocky. Despite the first version having thousands of users, we didn’t anticipate that would mean thousands of people wanting different things from our app.
So, we thought hard. An area of the original version that had worked well was high-end restaurants, who were using it to sell their unsold food at the end of the day. If this was a problem for high-end restaurants, we thought it might be a problem all restaurants face. We investigated the issue and were shocked to learn the scale of the food waste problem. Not to mention its devastating effect on the environment. It was an awakening for us, as it unlocked the true purpose of the business. That was the birth of Karma as we know it today.
At the time, we were told that it wouldn’t work - that people didn’t care about food waste. We launched in Stockholm 2016. In London, in 2018. And In Paris, in 2019. Today - we have over +1.5 M users and have together rescued over 4.5 M meals. Time has told a different story.
