We’re looking for a seasoned, multidisciplinary Design Lead to lead our high-performing design team in building incredible products for consumers and food businesses around the world, to make having zero food waste lucrative. As a successful Design Lead you will be responsible for both hands-on product design in one of our cross functional teams, while mentoring the whole product design team and ensuring that the design and experience of our products is among the best in the world. 

Design is an integral part of our everyday life and as design lead you will touch every aspect of the organization. This position requires an innovative designer, a helpful mentor, a team player, and a skilled communicator. Having a fundamental understanding of interaction design + UX and excellent leadership skills are essential for this role. 

As Design Lead at Karma you will work closely with both our product and engineering teams to design and you will report directly to the COO.

Your role will include:

  • Design products that are used by hundreds of thousands of users and businesses to create the first Zero Food Waste Generation.
  • Design and specify user interfaces using participatory and iterative design techniques, including observational studies, customer interviews, usability testing, and other forms of requirements discovery
  • Mentoring, growing and guiding the product design team. You will work with our design team to develop their skills and encourage them to excel. Overall, you will challenge the team to think beyond the expected. You will also be responsible for growing the product design team as our company grows and should feel comfortable engaging the international product design community.
  • Produce user requirements specifications, user behaviours, storyboards, scenarios, flowcharts, design prototypes, and design specifications
  • Conduct user research and effectively communicate research findings, conceptual ideas, detailed design, and design rationale both verbally and visually
  • Working closely with multidisciplinary team members on features and projects. You will be working hands-on with senior engineers, front-end developers, product owners and designers on a wide variety of projects. We work in small teams and move fast
  • Promote a culture of innovation and teamwork 

The ideal candidate:

  • Strong design portfolio demonstrating thoughtful interactions and visuals across web and mobile applications. 
  • Excellent UX and UI skills with 8+ years in-depth knowledge and experience of product design
  • Experience with brand and marketing design
  • Strong knowledge of design process and project management 
  • Attention to visual details
  • Must be organised, analytical, and dynamic 
  • A passion for design and people. You are eager to contribute to high-level strategic decisions and collaborating with the rest of the product team
